Roya Shokoohi is trained as an architect , and has a PhD in Urban Studies with a focus on children walking and biking to school. As an architect she was focused on social impact of architecture and the importance of the design in making people feel comfortable while using a space. She believes that architecture is not only to create space but making place, and not for people but with people. As a researcher in an applied science university , she expanded her research area to a broader topic to include active living and healthy environment. She has done several practical research on how built environment can help people to be more active and encourage healthier behaviour and what elements in the built environment/social environment help people to feel at home and move naturally. Making place, being inclusive and feeling at home are important aspects for people to use public open spaces, also a challenge for those who wants to redevelop or design public open spaces. She is one of the co-authors for the book Our City and her contribution is about Towards an active and inclusive campus.
