From e-mails in bed to octogenarian employees, our working days and working lives have transformed beyond recognition.
De-centralised, de-localised and atomised. The flexible, the occasional and the precarious. On-demand, straight-to-your-doorstep, anytime and anywhere. It seems that these changes are destined to only shrink and disaggregate urban life. Are we doomed to an age of working in bed?

Could the changing needs and technologies of work instead be the opportunity to invent a new way come together in the city– according to our rhythms and desires?

What if the future was ours to design?

Join us for a day collective design and practical utopianism at La Base, Marina de Valencia. Taking one of the Tinglados of the Marina as the site of our speculation, we will draft plans for a work-space fit for the future.

This activity would aim to open a broad discussion and promote on-site experimentation about the relation of urban spaces with the future of work. The discussion would build on the civic innovation process that the Valencian Public Service of Employment (LABORA) has developed in recent years in collaboration with "Carpe Studio". Workshops and theoretical contributions about space and emerging business models would be made in collaboration with the British research center, "Autonomy".

During the workshop we will get to know about the transformation of Labora based in re-thinking employment policies and job centers in the Valencian Region and the processes they have developed with CARPE and Autonomy. After a guided tour of Tinglado 4, a building dedicated to work spaces in the Marina, we will work through creative dynamics to reflect and co-create spaces capable of hosting the work of the future.
