In this collaborative session, participants will experience underused contexts from Spain, Hungary, and France with specific example of suburban garden, rooftops, train stations, and market hall. Moreover, the nature of the session will be interactive, thought provoking, and discussion oriented to seek answers towards these cases. Eulalie Blanc and Zélia Bobillier-Chaumont from DVTup will speak to “getting the local community to go from “attendant / enthusiast” to the role of “leader”. This is at stake to make sure a place dynamic continues after the placemaking facilitators are gone, especially in low-income neighbourhoods. This talk aims to discuss the challenges of community engagement in the longer term that may be faced beyond placemaking projects, based on DVTup 3 years long pilot project in Aubervilliers, France. Szilvia Zsargo from MindSpace present content about revitalizing experimentation of a not-so-well functioning market hall and its surroundings with bottom-up initiatives - experiences from Rákóczi square, Budapest. Alice Lunardon leads an initiative across Europe to evolve train stations into hubs of mobility, services for citizens and travelers (not only shops and luxe restaurants but also social enterprises for example, able to profit while developing communities and protecting the environment), but also as "circular infrastructures" able to reuse and recycle the energy they produce and consume. Marta Pérez Castañer, Fran Latorre, and Juan Carlos stimulate a full senses experience - sight, sound, hearing - to create an ambient terrace experience and to investigate the authentic right for all tenants/users to enjoy building rooftop to increase quality of life in the Spanish context with the intent to contribute to sustainability for the long-term, with the intention of generating over time the consolidation and economic prosperity of these places.
