Most placemaking initiatives have to deal with local authorities. A good and effective relationship with them might boost the work of placemakers. In our workshop we want to focus on three aspects of authorities that might make them real creative bureaucracies: First the potential rules and regulations which deal with placemaking activities.
Secondly the ‘inner life’ of the civil servants within the city administration. How do they operate ‘as human beings’ in their subjective and personal preferences towards the outside world including placemaking initiatives?
Thirdly, how do they deal with digital communication like social media to interact with placemaking actors? The short presentations in this workshop Creative Bureaucracies 2 focus on the change within the city administration for placemakers like Anna (Uppsala) and Timo (Helsinki).
The presentations of Papa Bella (Valencia) Kate (South Africa/Greece) and Miguel (Madrid), Laura (comparative study) and Alexandra (Athens) show how policies on local employment programme / intercultural understanding / solidarity economy / inclusive neighborhoods, can be amplified by a more creative bureaucracy or can provoke change in the city administrations.
