Like biologists on a trip away from the lab and into the field, we’ll be taking placemakers into the ecosystem of La Marina de Valencia to see – and meet! – some of the finest street performers in town. It’ll be a casual experience seeing street performers enliven a space where busking is usually not allowed. With zero infrastructure, management or oversight, see how street performers can completely transform a space, and hear direct from them why they busk, and how they’d be willing to work with placemakers.

This busking experience contributes to the understanding of how busking fits into the placemaking movement; evidence for its benefits for cities; and how urbanists, BIDs, councils and cultural organisations can easily engender a positive, healthy, impactful busking ecosystem by encouraging the best performers to perform, without hyper-regulation.

The session is hosted by The Busking Project, Vivian Doumpa and Musicarte Urbano, the local street musicians' and artists' association.
