Let’s truly involve the people and design together, also in areas where people are less privileged. What are ways of doing that? You can go from community-led design, where people bring in ideas en develop themes and functions for the area to co-designing, whereby people also engage in the choices and work collectively with the architect and developers. Taking it a step further would also involve them in programming and managing the place. All options have requirements, positive outcomes, possible pitfalls and unexpected side effects.

In this session we briefly present the three perspectives and then engage in an active discussion, whereby we’ll bring in all the expertise in the room to learn collectively from each others successes and failures.

With presentations from Tullio Ponzi, on the Mais Vida nos Morros programme in Brazil, Husam Al-Waer on the disconnect between the desire to engage the public, and the reality of the standard consultation procedures followed, and Jacqueline Bleicher, on codesigning with youth.
